Your Chairman's report Annual Parish Meeting 2012
Chairmans Report 2011/12
We welcomed Philip Clark during the year to fill the vacancy due to Alan Hill stepping down from the parish council.
The year has been a relevantly quiet one and events happening during the year in no particular order have been as follows:
- Official opening of the Broadview windfarm at Low Spinney. There was a good attendance at the opening ceremony and congratulations to the pupils of Dunton and Gilmorton primary schools who named the turbines. The first instalment of grant money has been received from Broadview and a separate subcommittee has been set up consisting of three councillors and three outside members to consider any applications received and make recommendations to the full council.
- The opening of the Indian restaurant in place of the Merrie Monk in Station Road.
- Part time lighting has now been in operation for over a year and, as yet, no problems have been encountered.
- The Parish Plan committee continues under the leadership of Alex Mofford although new members of the committee would be appreciated to replace those members who have left the District. The two spin offs of the Community Choir and Dunton goes Green have continued to be very active during the year and thanks to those who are taking an active part in these ventures. The neighbour watch committee continues to monitor policing matters with the help of the local policing officers.
- The Affordable Housing initiative has been put on hold due to funding restrictions.
- The Parish Council have continued their overview of any repairs required to the infrastructure of the village including the grass cutting contract. Many thanks to those villagers who plant and maintain the flower tubs around the village.
- The playground continues to be well utilised. A new slide is currently on order and should be in place by the time of the Annual Meeting. Thanks to the Community Service teams who have done a sterling job in tidying up the entrance to the playground and on the bund.
- The Community Service teams have also been tidying up a number of areas in the village including the Millenium bench and copse next door, the corner of Church Lane and Muddy lane and clearing all of the leaves from the Primary school. Many thanks to their leaders Pete and John.
- A side has been installed on the side of the bus shelter in Coopers Lane after requests from residents.
- Councillors have attended numerous District and outside meetings during the year and thanks to all the councillors for the time and effort that they put in to support our village especially to Alex Mofford who has become involved in a number of initiatives within the District including the Community Forums and broadband improvement. Also thanks to our clerk, Amanda, for keeping us on the straight and narrow and congratulations on her marriage during the year to Adam.
- During the year the Council has commented on any planning applications that have been received. Following the adoption by Harborough District Council's of their Core Strategy HDC had contacted local landowners to enquire if they had any land available which they wished to put forward for development. The Aikman Estate had put forward a proposal for development of " The Beat" and in a well attended meeting in January residents surrounding the development raised their objections to the plan and a letter was sent to HDC noting the residents objections. As yet there has been no further development but should any application be forthcoming a separate Council meeting will be held where all of the residents of the village can make their views known.
- Many thanks to the many villagers who enhance the lives of the villagers through their efforts for whatever organisation it may be, especially the "Dine in Dunton" ladies, Leire and Dunton Scout Group who celebrated 25years in 2011,and Judi Pridding for the village newsletter.
- We now look forward to the Queens' Diamond Jubilee and the many events being organised, which it's hoped will be well attended by all of the villagers.
Eric Pridding - Chairman
